About Buoybots

The Buoybots are designed to meet the following criteria;

  • Eliminate the need to establish RC sailing courses using volunteers in boats.

  • Functionality first, a beautiful object second.

  • Be similar in size to traditional buoys.

  • Be as low cost as possible, but no compromise over quality of components (motors).

  • Be as accurate “on station” as technology and budget limitations will allow.

  • Intuitive & easy to use control system, capable of complex manoeuvres in experienced hands.

  • Operate in fresh or saltwater.

  • Light weight, durable, robust.

  • Waterproof “on board” control box.

  • Not “over the horizon” range, but have the ability to range about as far as the naked eye can comfortably see an RC yacht sail number.

  • Operate at approx. 1.5 knots while traveling to/from their position.

  • Provide undeniable visibility when, if and which passing boats hit a turning mark.

  • Eliminate the risk that a boat keel will “foul” an anchor line.

  • Hold station for six plus hours, in 20+ knots, in whatever chop the fetch pushes up.

NOTE: Buoybots are NOT maintenance free. See our maintenance page for more info
